Forest Foraging Trip

 In this hands on workshop, we visit the Chiang Mai forest to learn about the abundance of mushroom species thrive there. 

Here you will learn about the fascinating world of fungi! 
We will explore fungi's place in our ecosystem, culture, and diet. You will understand how to read the forest to find mushrooms. Notice the places where fungi fruit, and learn about the relationships between the trees they connect to.

You will develop the ability to identify mushrooms through the gills, spore print, scent and touch - and to tell a friend from a lookalike.

And, after a morning session on the history and properties of fungi, we will venture deeper into the forest to learn how to connect to the ecosystem using your senses.

Following the hike, we decompress with a rejuvenating mushroom drink and share details about functional mushrooms and their benefits.

Schedule (Doi Pui)

• 9:00 · Fungi Theory, and Khao Soi on the mountain. Enjoy a coffee and Chiang Mai's famous Khao Soi Noodle, whilst learning about the fascinating world of fungi.
  
  
• 10:00 · Into the forest. Venture into the forest to see fungi in the forest first hand, and uncover the relationships with 
  
  
• 11:30 · Functional Mushroom Drink. Time to sit, go back over what we found, and ask everything you thought of on the walk.
• 12:00 · Finish.

Trips run on set dates rather than on request, because we go where the season is best.

What is included

• Khao Soi breakfast and a drink to finish
• Three hours guided, 9:00 to 12:00

Getting there

Travel is not included in the price. The meeting point is up the mountain outside the city, so you have two options:

• Group taxi. We arrange one that leaves together in the morning. Around 300 to 500 baht per person depending on numbers, paid on the day. Tell us when you book if you would like a seat.
• Make your own way. We confirm the exact meeting point when you book.

• Beginner friendly, no experience needed
• Wear shoes you do not mind getting muddy, and bring water
• What you find depends on the season. Some mornings are abundant, some are quiet. That is foraging.

Trips are weather dependent. If conditions are poor we will tell you before you travel.
